Relations with Spain have been very intense in the field of numerical methods. They started in 1972-1974 with the stay of Dr. A. Bermudez de Castro who prepared his doctoral thesis at INRIA. The principal components of our cooperation are:
Pre-docs training: In the last years 5 students have prepared their thesis at INRIA or in close relationship with the Institute. Two other are on the way;
Short stays: each year about ten visits are made on the 2 sides.
Autumn schools: Spanish-French schools on numerical simulation in physics and in engineering. They take place on even years with an average of 80 participants. The most recent one was organised in September 1996 by the University of Oviedo.
European projects: INRIA has Spanish partners in 14 ESPRIT projects, 5 HCM networks and a BRITE-EURAM project. (most frequently with Universita Politecnica di Catalogna and the University of Madrid).
